SALT x Seven Clean Seas – The Final Straw
Here at SALT, we have teamed up with the world’s first Ocean Clean-Up organisation – Seven Clean Seas. The collaboration beer, aims to combat the issue of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans, by directly donating a portion of the proceeds from every purchase. To put it into perspective, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. Scary right? Every single minute, a truck’s worth of plastic is dumped into the ocean and that’s only going to increase. So, we are joining the fight against plastic pollution and giving ‘drinking like a fish’ a whole new meaning!
Every single year, 11 million metric, tons of plastic enter our Marine ecosystem. By 2040, that’s going to increase to almost 29 million metric tons to put that into perspective. That’s the same as 50 kilograms of plastic on each meter of coastline globally. Every single year.
Tom Peacock-Nazil is the founder and CEO of Seven Clean Seas, the world’s first ocean clean-up organisation. At Seven Clean Seas the mission is to rid the world’s oceans from plastic pollution for good
They approached the problem in three key steps, firstly, they build projects that remove plastic from our oceans. Secondly, they work with indigenous communities in the countries where they lead their projects, in order to give them waste management infrastructures so that the plastic they use does not enter the ocean in the first place. And lastly, they partner with businesses and organizations all over the world to help them measure and reduce the amount of plastic that they have to use on a daily basis.
Two things that Tom loves most in the world are craft beer, and ocean conservation. And that’s why it was only right to bring him in to create this beer.
At SALT, we have collaboratively created an amazing beer, and aptly named it “The Final Straw”. Initially we are launching this beer exclusively into over 500 Tesco stores, and then it will be on sale to all of our favourite pubs and restaurants. This beer is particularly special due to the purpose behind it, our goal over the next 12 months is to remove 40,000 kilos of plastic from the ocean through the sale of this beer.
So, whether you’re picking up a four pack in your local Tesco, or choosing it for your pint of choice at the bar, each sale will directly contribute to the removal of plastic from our oceans. You’re going to be protecting the biodiversity, that calls that ecosystem it’s home, but more important than you’re going to be doing that by directly removing plastic from our oceans.
The Final Straw (5%) is the perfect pale ale for pretty much any occasion. With a light body and low bitterness, this tropically fruit pale is packed full of southern hemisphere hops, including Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Enimgma in the dry-hop. Completed with a juicy citrus aftertaste that is sure to leave you wanting more.
It really is an ocean saving pale ale.
